Applique work is a famous art form of Pipli town in Odisha, India. Having passed on through generations, since about 850 years, this art form has continued and the process of making the art and handicrafts have remained unchanged even today. Originally, a temple art, coloured cloth is cut and folded in different shapes like leaves, flowers, animals and other motifs and stitched in the piece of cloth. The most common and simple design is this lamp shade among many others adorned with small mirrors, giving an exquisite look to the fabric. At the border of the cloth is a simple thread design made as embroidery.
