The look of poise, sensuality (Surata in Sanskrit) and beauty that is associated with royalty and Indian women has been passed on through generations in varied ways. The way they used to carry themselves, have been carved by artisans in an impeccable manner, highlighting the essentiality of looking elegant in the times of yore. The queens and princesses in particular used to spend a lot of time keeping themselves graceful at all times. In this sculpture, made in sandstone, a maiden is portrayed looking at the mirror; her slightly extended lips giving an impression that she is likes what she is sees. The splendour that surrounds royalty can be seen around, with nature closely intertwined.

Depicted here in this white sandstone sculpture is Lord Buddha performing the Abhaya Mudra which literally translates to a hand gesture that portrays fearlessness. It is believed that this is the mudra that the Lord first displayed after attaining enlightenment. It is performed by holding one hand up with the elbow bent and palm facing outward while the other hand rests on the lap. This conveys a sense of peace and security as the hands are empty, devoid of any weapons. Intricately designed and carved, this idol when placed in the entrance hall may ward off any evil.
