Since ancient times, long tresses (Chikura in Sanskrit) in an Indian context have always been seen as adding to a woman’s beauty. In this sculpture, a woman from the royal family is seen playing with her hair while taking a stroll in the royal garden. The intricate craft work conspicuously lends a feel of her beauty while unobtrusively indicating her sensual appeal. Along with her attire and jewelry, the sculpture is worth all the attention, especially because of the layers in the tresses and the complexity attained through massive craftsmanship on the jewels. It also clearly indicates the traditional richness of Indian history, which faded, but the wealth in artistry that remained.
We have written a detailed blog about this exquisite sculpture. Do give it a read!

Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe and believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world. She is multi-dimensional. Durga, through all her forms, encompasses the essence of salvation and sacrifice. She is the mother of bounty and wealth, as also of beauty and knowledge. She is the embodiment of purity, knowledge, truth and self-realization. The highest form of truth present in any being or Jiva is known as "Aatman" or supreme consciousness. Goddess Durga is the inherent dynamic energy through which this supreme consciousness manifests itself.

It is performed by holding one hand up with the elbow bent and palm facing outward while the other hand rests on the lap. This conveys a sense of peace and security as the hands are empty, devoid of any weapons. Intricately designed and carved, this idol when placed in the entrance hall may ward off any evil.
