Depicted here in this white sandstone sculpture is Lord Buddha performing the Abhaya Mudra which literally translates to a hand gesture that portrays fearlessness. It is believed that this is the mudra that the Lord first displayed after attaining enlightenment. It is performed by holding one hand up with the elbow bent and palm facing outward while the other hand rests on the lap.
