Giving a glimpse of royalty in ancient India, this sculpture portrays the companions of princesses in the royal garden. The contrast is evident -- the serenity in playfulness (Prahela in Sanskrit) that is not disrupted even when the opulence abounds, lends this masterpiece a unique identify. While it tends to capture the magnificence of times, it also delves deep into the imagination of the craftsmen from Odisha in Eastern part of India, who amid their struggles, could mirror sophistication with such selfless excellence. It is in their imagination, passed on through generations, that such art find distinction and eternal glory.

Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe and believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation, and destruction of the world. She is multi-dimensional. Durga, through all her forms, encompasses the essence of salvation and sacrifice. She is the mother of bounty and wealth, as also of beauty and knowledge. She is the embodiment of purity, knowledge, truth and self-realization. The highest form of truth present in any being or Jiva is known as "Aatman" or supreme consciousness. Goddess Durga is the inherent dynamic energy through which this supreme consciousness manifests itself.
