Royalty is enshrined in this sandstone sculpture of a maiden who is whiling away her time in the royal garden, the favored place for them to spend their leisure time amid in-house natural splendors. The intricate carving clearly brings out the elegance (Saundarya in Sanskrit) of her attire, jewelry and her features, which have been captured by the artisans through generations and continued even to this day. Even her posture has been frozen in time, lending the sensuality that the maidens in the palaces used to maintain to lure their kings.

Depicted here in this white sandstone sculpture is Lord Buddha performing the Abhaya Mudra which literally translates to a hand gesture that portrays fearlessness. It is believed that this is the mudra that the Lord first displayed after attaining enlightenment. It is performed by holding one hand up with the elbow bent and palm facing outward while the other hand rests on the lap. This conveys a sense of peace and security as the hands are empty, devoid of any weapons. Intricately designed and carved, this idol when placed in the entrance hall may ward off any evil.
