Kerala Lamps

An oil lamp is lit to bow down to knowledge as the greatest of all forms. The oil or ghee in the lamp symbolises vices and the wick, the ego. When lit by spiritual knowledge, these vices and ego perish.

Nilavilakku, or 'Tall Lamps' are traditional lamps from Kerala and Tamilnadu. A part of every household, these lamps are lit at first light of dawn and again at the fall of dusk. Lighting of this auspicious lamp marks the start of all festivities too. These lamps are handed down as family heirloom.

The construct of a Nilavilakku is from an age old traditional method of Bell Metal casting, using moulds, with designs that are centuries old. This is a wonderful option to own or to gift, while honouring an age old tradition of lighting a lamp for an auspicious start.
